Cards are the perfect medium for trying out new trends. You can make them in an afternoon, send them out the next day, and move on to the next trend that catches your eye.
I also love the challenge of making a trend fit my style or that of my recipient. Maybe you lean towards clean & graphic designs... or perhaps fun & cute is more your style. You might be more of a classy & elegant designer or maybe you like to add vintage details to your projects. No matter what your style, I think there are always ways to to utilize new trends while still staying true to yourself.
Take, for example, the star trend that I highlighted in one of my recent Trendy Trios classes. I tend to create cards that are a mix of colorful, fun, & cute elements with a fresh vintage feel.
It’s fun to see someone else’s take on the same trend. Lexi Bridges makes really cool, hip & trendy layouts. She tends to add in simple shapes (such as stripes, arrows, & other geometric designs) & her color schemes are generally more masculine to document the lives of her boys.
Another Garden Girl, Wilna Furstenberg, designed this layout featuring the star trend. Wilna’s designs are artsy, romantic, & feminine.
In my Journey Into Card Making workshop, I talk more about identifying design styles & incorporating trends. I hope you’ll try out a new trend this week & make someone’s day by sending them a handmade card! - Julie
