Hello there, this is Janna with a post about incorporating personal goals into Project Life. Project Life is a huge hit, just in case you are not familiar with the concept, I will quickly say a few words about it.
Project Life is a way of documenting your everyday life. Usually you would have an album, filled with page protectors. You collect memorabilia, take photos during a week and add all those things into your PL album. You can create a week to week, a month to month or even theme specific album, for example. There are lots of products for creating and decorating a Project Life album: journaling cards, papers, pens, page dividers etc. and there is a big variety of companies that offer the most beautiful products like the original Becky Higgins supplies, Echo Park´s Photo Freedom collection and many more. But you can also use conventional scrapbooking collections and "convert" them into PL supplies.
Now, let´s get back to the topic of this post: incorporating goals into Project Life. Last year I decided that it was time for a change in my life - I needed to loose weight. To motivate myself and to document my weight loss, I decided to start a Project Life album that would be devoted to this one topic.
My idea was to take a photo of me standing on the scale each week, hopefully documenting how much I had lost within the last seven days - well, let me be honest: I still did not really loose weight, but that´s another story *laughs*.
Then I added photos of what I did within the week or wrote about my struggles. I also added bags for "secret" thoughts. If someone has a look at your PL you don´t necessarily want them to see and read everything, right?
I did this for the first three or four weeks of 2013. Then I realized two things: first of all, it is very hard to fill a double spread about weight loss every week. My days are quite the same, just like everyone else´s: work, family, friends and hobbies. I got tired of repeating myself. And second: by documenting my weight loss every week, I got very much focussed on it, it was really stressful and in the end not very relaxing. Therefore I decided to rather document our everyday life plus a short note about my weight loss whenever it feels right.
So, what else could you do to incorporate personal goals in a PL album (without getting stressed)? Here are some ideas:
- reserve one or two pockets for a "status update" each week
- devote one page per month to your personal goal
- add information about your goal whenever it feels right
- create a mini PL booklet in your PL album that is dedicated to your goal
- instead of using a big album, do a mini PL album, maybe 6x6" size
Whatever you choose to do, always remember one thing: YOU should be happy with your album. Oragnize and create the album the way you like it best, whatever solution you come up with. Enjoy the process of creating, embellishing and documenting your very own life, to preserve memories for your (grand-) children, friends, family and yourself. And have fun playing with the lovely supplies, that´s part of it as well, isn´t it? :)
I am wishing you a great day, wherever you are.
