Hey Peas! For this month's 2012 : Captured class, I'm talking about photos. Keeping up with Project Life means keeping up with a LOT of photos! Today, I've got a quick tutorial on creating a photo collage to use in your album. This is a technique I turn to whenever I have an event with a lot of photos - it's a fun way to get them all in without adding an insert or using a lot of pockets. I'm using Picasa for this how to - it's a free photo editing program that you can download here: http://picasa.google.com/.
Once you've loaded your photos into Picasa (go under file, then look for "add file to picasa"), click on "Create" then "Create Collage."
In the settings window, select your collage type. I like the grid style, but play around with the other options and see what you like with your photos! You can switch this up at any point in the process.
Click on "Clips" - this is where you'll pick which photos will go into your collage. Just select them and click the plus sign. If the photos you want to use aren't here, click on the get more photos and select the ones you want.
Double check your print size - I like to do 4x6s so they'll fit in the pockets on my page.
If you'd like to add a border between photos, use this slider. Just adjust it till the borders are the size you want.
Once you're happy with how it looks, click create collage. This will save your work. Now you'll be able to print from Picasa, or you can use the "export" option under file to add it to a folder on your computer. You'll have a 4x6 photo that you can print at home or send to your favorite online printer!
Here's a few places that I've used collages in my album. You can use it as is, add embellishments, or even cut the photos apart and use them as small photos in your week.
And here's a peek at a collage in my week for the May class :
Once you've got the basics down, have fun playing with different settings and sizes. While the collage creator is great for Project Life, it would also be a quick and easy starting point for a multi photo layout, and a fun way to arrange photos for a blog post, too. I hope you enjoy using it!
